Arrival and Departure:
- Parents of Pre-Ballet I, II, III, IV, and Intro to Ballet students are expected to accompany them into and out of the building for all classes. Be sure that the instructor is present before leaving.
- It is preferred that students arrive completely dressed for class with their hair done, and that they use the rest room before class begins. Students who need to change clothes should change in the Dressing Room/Costume Room (please do NOT touch the costumes) and NOT in the bathroom stall so that these are available for those who need to use them.
- Parents may leave once class has begun and should return before their child is dismissed.
- Parents are asked NOT to sit in the immediate classroom area without invitation or special arrangement. There will be a designated Parent Observation Day in the Fall Semester where parents and friends are invited to watch class.
- Should severe weather conditions develop, we will follow the Laurel Christian School and public school system’s decisions, please check our website as well for news about possible class cancellations due to weather laurelballetacademy.com . If school has been canceled, then dance class has also been canceled and you will be notified of a make-up date.
- Students should strive not to miss class without good reason.
- Tuition will not be adjusted due to absences for any reason other than prolonged (exceeding 2 weeks) illness or injury. A student may attend another appropriate level class to make up for a missed one.
General Classroom rules:
- Students are to wait outside the classroom door until the instructor calls them in. Students are not allowed to run around the classroom between classes.
- Students are to listen and obey the instructor. Students who do not listen may be asked to sit in time-out for the duration of one exercise/activity per misdemeanor.
- No talking or noise-making and no touching other students unless called for by the instructor.
- Students are expected to use the rest room BEFORE class ! Bathroom breaks are not allowed during class time.
- NO gum, food, or drinks allowed in studio !!! Students in Ballet 1, 2, 3, and 4 may bring a water bottle into class if they desire.
Class Attire:
- Students are asked to comply with dress code items as these items may be used in future performances. Underwear should not be worn under tights as tights are considered “ballet underwear” and it is impolite to have panties peeking out from under leotards.
- Students should mark all of their dancewear with a permanent marker and maintain them without holes or runs (instructions are available on how to easily mend tights). A “ballet bag” is also useful for keeping everything together.
- Street shoes and a cover-up should be worn to and from all classes and performances.
- Allow the instructor to check new ballet shoes for fit and to adjust the strings before using or sewing them. Ballet slippers will quickly ruin if worn outside !
- All students (of every age and in every class) are required to have their hair up off of their necks AND pinned to their heads- multiple offenders will be asked to leave class for safety reasons. NO plain ponytails or braids will be allowed as they obstruct head position, create bad "bang-pushing" habits, and often cause face and eye injuries during multiple turns!!!! Acceptable hairstyles include “classical ballet bun,” “braid and clip,” or “ponytail and clip” style (please refer to the sheet with directions and diagram). Other styles may also be approved by the instructor. Bangs are fine for class and 12 bobby pins plus either a hair net, curl net, or bun cover should be used to secure stray hairs in a bun.
- No jewelry may be worn to class with the exception of small earrings.
